Sixty female athletes from Camp Poc-O-MacCready for tennis, and softball recently. The long drive didn’t seem to affect the girl’s ability to compete.
First, the Regis soccer team went to battle and was down 1-0 at then in the second half Diana Bradshaw stepped to the penalty line due to a handball inside the box. She successfully kicked the ball into the lower of hand comer to knot the game 1-1. Time ran out on the Regis girls to score again. Some extra strong performances were turned in by Brittany Holmes. Eva Sands, Rebecca Kircheimer, and Diana Bradshaw. Everyone hustled and did their best.
The Applejack soccer team played next. Despite their never having practiced as a complete team, the girls played very well but lost 1-0. Just as the time expired, Alex Budabin and the MacCready goalie took each other out of the play, and Emily Katz was in position to score. It was an open net, but it was also too late. Girls who had an outstanding game included Kate Grosseman, Nina Bernstein, Sara Brockman, Katherine Schmauss, Adrienne Slater, and Claire Nelson. Emily Ruff, a Falcon girl, teamed with the AJ girls and held her own against those at least two years older. Good going Emily!
Next the AJ girls took to the basketball courts while the Regis girls competed on the diamond. The AJ girls evened the series against Poco with a one point victory, 20-19. The AJ team led by as many as 7 points but held off a tall, ferocious MacCready team. Diana Eckstein, Camille Bell, Molly Tweedy, Salena Hazzard, and LeeAnn Fulton helped lead the team to victory. The Regis girls played all-up softball due to some time restraints and brought home another victory by the score of 9-7. Leading the way for the Regis Team were Ali Reddington, Liza Pitsiriols, Lilah Carlaw, and Kate Hoffman along with a host of others.
Competing in tennis for the combined Regis-AJ team were: Sara Norman, Lindsay Goward, Lauren Kryzak, Mandy Muller, Latanae Parker, Margret Seaman, and Debbie Muller. All girls wined in an excellent performance, capturing five out of six watches. Lindsay and Lauren both battled back to win their matches by a score of 8-7.
Unfortunately the AJ softball team had to play a one-inning game of all-up softball. AJ dominated behind the bats of Vanessa Naccarado, Camille Bell, Sara Norman, and Miriam Seifter to win the game 6-3. Diana Eckstein pitched for the AJ’s. This concluded a great day of athletic and sportsmanship for the Camp Regis delegates.
Other campers who participated include: Jen Hayman, Jessica Parker Christi Joffee, Joy Guttenberg, Alexandria Nussbaum, Margret VanDussen, Sasha Keady, Lee DeSaw, Emily Schwartz, Christina Tchyan, Lauren Naccarato, Alexandria Fabin, Colleen Lynch, Ellie Guthrie, Katie Fulton, Julie Goldberg, Jocey Florence, Kate Barrett, Diane Guote, Tara Sands, Lorin Bona, Mollyn Petkanas-Jagerson, Liz Cimarelli, Noemi Millman, Ame Igharo, Melanie Freedberg-Shapiro, Jessica Stepman, Masae Saito, and Tomoko Kato.
Thanks to the following people for their help in making our trip a success: Don Lasko, Bobbi Joffe, James Roberts, Pete Rosenberg, Tracy McGover, and the tennis and athletic female staff members.
While the girls were playing at Poc-O-MacCready, the three AJ boys cabins played a round-robin soccer tournament. Each cabin had a win and a loss, but based on goal differentials AJ II A came out on top. However in the third and final game of the tournament, after a 3-3 tie they were upset by AJ I in a shoot-out. We look forward to the video tape replay of highlights of the shoot-out, especially an exciting score by Toure Weaver.
