I just returned from a full day of activities in the best location in camp, the music room above the boat house. I have the most beautiful view of the lake and the sail boats through my long, narrow window. I am happy because I even got the AJ II Boys singing today, partly thanks to the efforts of their counselor who sang a “Take Me Home Country Roads” version about Western Oregon and Oklahoma at the staff talent show. I had a full crew for the “Regis guitar” free choice, including some new faces as well as others who show up regularly. Even as I write, I hear a guitar outside my window, having just returned from a rehearsal during general swim time for the campers’ own talent show this week. Even though we are not a specialized “Arts” camp, I feel excited about introducing campers to new things. I especially enjoy teaching campers who have never studied music before or getting a child to start playing the guitar. With Guys and Dolls now over, and Jungle Book well on its way, I spend a lot of time improvising and working with my good old roommate, “GOOB” and look forward to the up-coming show.
