We had a great summer in 2019! There were just over 70 campers in total over the six week season. We obtained our permit from the NY Department of Health in June and welcomed our first group of campers on June 30. We admitted a roughly equal mix of local day campers, and overnight campers.
Some of the highlights in the first 3 weeks were climbing St. Regis, fireworks in Saranac Lake on July 4, swimming, waterskiing and tubing, an overnight canoe trip to Bear Pond, and awesome art classes from Sierra Humes and Josephine Delaney and music classes from Ms. Isabella.
Many of the overnight campers in the first 3 -week session were from a group in North Carolina called the Mariposas. Most of these campers had never experienced summer camp or upstate NY so it was an exciting adventure and we believe many of these campers will return in 2020. The second 3-week session included campers from all over, as far away as France and California.
Highlights included more great art and music classes, day trips to the Wild Center and the Six Nations Indian Museum, a night hike at the VIC where we saw bats and tons of moths, lots of swimming, sailing, and tubing and another overnight canoe trip to Bear Pond as well as an overnight backpacking trip to John’s Brook Lodge. Some of the day campers were with us for all six weeks (which was great!) and some joined us for a week or two (also great!). We ran a daily shuttle to and from Saranac Lake, which included a Friday afternoon visit to Donnelly’s every week. It was wonderful getting to know campers and their families and we can’t wait for summer 2020!
