How I’m Spending My Summer Vacation

Jul 1, 1994

By Dave Spicer, Falcons’ Counselor It’s early morning, about 6:45. I walk over to the showers, enjoying the peace and quiet. After a shower, I return to my cabin feeling great. Then I hear them: the bells, and more bells! All of a sudden, it’s not so quiet. Jason and Chris, my co-counselors, and myself are now in the presence of 27 twelve year olds. They’re running around brushing teeth,...

Putting Trash In Its Place

Jun 12, 1994

The Regis Applejack Recycling Program is entering its third season, and our commitment to recycling is evident throughout camp, from the specially-labeled dumpsters to the official camp toilet tissue (recycled paper, of course!) Counselors and veteran campers will work together to help new campers familiarize themselves with the program so that recycling becomes a habit with everyone. We take pride in the comprehensiveness of our efforts; at Regis Applejack we...

Three New Lodges Open For 1994 Season

Jun 5, 1994

For the past several months, the denizens of Camp Regis Applejack have been serenaded by hammers, saws, drills and grinding gears. When the “music” stopped, our grounds boasted three new buildings, and a renovated playhouse. The new additions – Rainbow, Pathfinders, and Timbercrest Lodges – will house Regis campers and Apprentice Counselors respectively. The Playhouse now has a raised stage and a center curtain that will enhance summer productions. In...

Three Programs Returning to Camper Activity Schedule

Jun 4, 1994

This summer, the campers’ already ambitious schedule of activities has been expanded to include gymnastics, photography, and music. Over the course of the season, every camper will be evaluated by gymnastics coach Mary Heit. “I think gymnastics is a fun way to develop agility and coordination; confidence and competence. And the kids seem to really enjoy themselves,” said Mary. The newly renovated Playhouse Garage is the site of our darkroom...

A Welcome from Michael and Pauline

Jun 2, 1994

The arrival of campers and staff from across the United States and the world never ceases to excite us, even as we begin our camp’s 49th season. We’re so happy to welcome all of you to our camp family. We are also excited about our capital improvement program at camp. The new buildings and the beautiful additions to our community, including the front entrance, the new flagpole at the beach,...

293 Campers Arrive Safely

Jun 1, 1994

The harsh wind and misty rain did not stop the 1994 Regis Applejack staff from completing all the final tasks in preparation for the arrival of nearly 300 campers from all over the world and from across the United States on Tuesday. Although the weather “dampened” some of our diligent staff, none of the newly-arrived campers seemed to even notice the rain, the wind, or the mud. Shouts of joy...

Thank You

May 28, 1994

A very special “Thank You” goes out to all those in the Regis Applejack family who have helped to make this another successful camper registration year. To all those families who have field phone calls and answered questions from prospective campers and parents, a big “Thank You.” And to those who have helped Mike Humes and Cris Gilliland with the many camp shows this past winter– George Bredig– Tina Mazzella–...

Music Added to Performing Arts Program

May 21, 1994

In addition to our already existing, fabulous drama and dance programs, we have added a music program that looks to be something rather special. Kelly Deyo, a Music Education Major at SUNY Potsdam, will be working with both instruments, which can be easily transported to camp, should plan to bring their instrument and participate in this new program. We have plans to get together some instrument and choral performances for...

Camp Acquires New Bus

May 18, 1994

As if the new van mentioned in the March Newsletter was not enough, we now have a new 48 passenger bus. With the addition of this bus, trips out of camp will be undertaken with less of a “caravan” and more comfort to the campers and staff. We will be able to have more versatility in the Thursday “Bunk Day” trips – getting out to trailheads for a day of...
