Greetings from Rosemary and Suzanne! Let’s all congratulate those cast in “South Pacific,” the popular Broadway musical by Rogers and Hammerstein. Leading the cast of Pacific Island adventurers are, as nurse Nellie, Lauren Cohen of Cascade Lodge and her hero, Emile, played by Colden Lodge’s very own Adam Hartstone-Rose. We are so excited about our end of half show, but we can’t forget about the great bunk plays we’ve been having! Many of the visiting parents were treated to the Blue Jays and Cardinals performance of “Small Crimson Parasol” which is the Japanese version of Little Red Riding Hood. With changes of setting, where the forest becomes the Bamboo Forest, and a character change from a wolf to a tiger, Small Crimson Parasol was a colorful change of pace.
In contrast, the Falcons and Eagles bunk plays were a bit different from your traditional fairy tales. The Falcons did their own version of “Cinderella”, and the Eagles treated us to “Homeystiltskin”, their interpretation of the classic “Rumplestiltskin.” Both shows were created by brainstorming ideas for new characters and play twists with all the campers contributing their own ideas. The result, two unique and funny plays featuring everything from Queen Latifa to Elvis. We look forward to our AJ bunk plays coming up in our second half. They promise to be winners!
