The Sunday Morning Meeting has been an important camp tradition since the founding of camp 49 years ago. Each Sunday morning the entire camp gathers on the playhouse field to reflect on the topic of the day. The topics are chosen by a committee of campers and counselors headed by Sally Rosenberg and Don Lasko.
At meeting we have a chance to gather our thoughts and share them with everyone or keep them within. Campers and counselors share poems they have written or read a poem or story they have come across. Sylvie Waterhouse, Leela Singha, and Suzanne Bracken have all shared songs with us.
It has been a tradition for a number of years to open meeting with the John Denver song “Welcome to My Morning.” Then Sally welcomes everyone and introduces the topic. Frank Naccaroto would often have some words of wisdom for us and helped to get people on track about the topic.
At our first meeting, Pauline asked returning campers and staff to talk about what Sunday Morning Meeting meant to them. We also talked about camp, why we came to camp, and what we expected to get out of our stay here. Other meeting topics included growing up, potential and capability, coping and change, and peace and friendship. Meeting helps recharge us and prepare us for the week ahead.
