Archery

Aug 11, 1994

This year archery has become a popular sport at camp. Thirty two campers have received awards this summer. The awards arrange from Junior Bowman (60 points with 30 arrows at 20 us), to Golden Bow Archer (100 points with 30 arrows at 50 yards). The top archer so far this summer, Stephen Brezinsky, is currently a Silver Bow Archer. Archery is a fun and challenging individualistic sport. It has been...

Athletics

Aug 11, 1994

Part of the Eagles and Falcon girls’ cabins combined to form a soccer team to travel to Camp Chateaugay for competition. The Camp Regis team ran into some stiff competition and lost 6-0.  When measuring who the true winners were however,  Regis dominated because they continuously played hard and never gave up. They demonstrated sportsmanship and pride.  They accepted defeat without making excuses. Some of the girls  were playing soccer...

Arts and Crafts

Aug 11, 1994

We’re rapidly coming into the final stretch in arts and crafts. Free choices have been filled with many budding basket weavers and lots of final touches are being put on the clay pieces. Lanyard and string are popular choices for Regis and Applejack campers alike. Debbie and Kristen have had a great time working with all of you!

Farewell to Regis Applejack 1994

Aug 10, 1994

As we enter our last day and prepare for our banquet meal and final campfire. I am amazed at how quickly the summer has passed. We all have many memories to take home with us and to keep during the winter and during the year to come. These memories of camp life and camp friendships made within our special caring community mark a time and place in our lives which...

Pioneering Is Exciting!

Aug 9, 1994

This week has been an adventurous one in Pioneering. We have been to Peter’s Rock, Copperas Pond, Bear Pond, Avalanche Pass, and Regis Mountain. The campers have been great. One of the best aspects of the trips has been the enthusiasm! They have learned how to set-up tents, how to build fires with the help of Krista and Cara, they will learn how to be wilderness survivors. One of the...

South Pacific Comes to Paul Smiths

Aug 8, 1994

Greetings from Rosemary and Suzanne! Let’s all congratulate those cast in “South Pacific,” the popular Broadway musical by Rogers and Hammerstein. Leading the cast of Pacific Island adventurers are, as nurse Nellie, Lauren Cohen of Cascade Lodge and her hero, Emile, played by Colden Lodge’s very own Adam Hartstone-Rose. We are so excited about our end of half show, but we can’t forget about the great bunk plays we’ve been...

Campers Love New Gymnastics Program

Aug 7, 1994

By: Latanae Parker I think that we have a great gymnastics program here at Camp Regis Applejack. We also have a great teacher. She puts her mind to her work. She has helped a lot of people. We have just a lot of new equipment to use. I think that gymnastics is a great sport. But you really have to try hard to become good at it. I think a...

Progress Report on Dance

Aug 7, 1994

Our morning ballet class has some consistent members, and they are showing the results of their absorption of technical formation. Congratulations on your commitment! The choreography class has some independent members, as well as some younger ones, who, with a little guidance, came up with a great little “accumulation farce”. Our aerobics class now has ten different moves in the sequence, and is still growing. It was greatly enlivened by...

Nature News

Aug 6, 1994

Nature has been busy this week helping kids prepare for overnight trips with the Pioneering program. Campers learned how to pack their rucksack and what to do if they get lost from from the group. They also learned some basic first-aid techniques, how to stop bleeding and how to protect oneself from hypothermia. Campers had a great time building fires and making fire soup, as well as making shelters out...

Skip-a-dee-do-dah!

Aug 6, 1994

This week’s music classes were filled with Disney songs from Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, Aladdin, and Sleeping Beauty! On top of all the wonderful voices, some groups prepared skits for the Talent Show. The Cardinal Girls prepared an act with accompanied by music from The Pink Panther. The musical, South Pacific, is coming along with children having voice lessons and learning their parts. The music Department has also...
